The deposit
Most Disney Cruise Line reservations take a deposit of about 20% of the cruise fare to hold the stateroom. Promotions can change the deposit amount or timing — always read the offer terms and your booking confirmation.
- Disney gift cards and many travel-agent payment plans can apply toward deposit and final payment — confirm what’s accepted for your booking.
- Cancellation penalties usually start well before final payment; earlier cancellations are more flexible. Check your specific fare rules.
Final payment by sailing length
Disney’s published pattern for most U.S. sailings:
| Cruise length | Typical final payment | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 nights | ~90 days before sail | Most Bahamas / short Caribbean |
| 6 nights or longer | ~120 days before sail | Week-plus Caribbean, Alaska, Europe, Panama Canal, etc. |
Holiday weeks, specialty itineraries, and some promotions can use different deadlines. Your reservation in MyDisney Cruise / your agent’s invoice is the source of truth.
Disney generally requires the cruise to be paid in full before you can book Port Adventures, specialty dining, cabanas, and similar activities online. Miss final payment and you also risk cancellation penalties. See booking windows.
How families stay out of trouble
- Put final payment on a calendar with a 1-week buffer for bank processing.
- If you booked through an agent, ask them to confirm the exact due date and how gift cards / payments are applied.
- Stack savings ideas (Target Circle Card gift cards, warehouse-club gift cards when available) before the deadline — see the homepage save section and cost breakdown.
